Plagiarism, Text Similarity & Generative AI Policy

FJMRI deploys automated manuscript screening and rigorous editorial similarity audits to prevent unattributed text recycling, and enforces the WAME/COPE ethical frameworks governing artificial intelligence in scientific publishing.

01. Editorial Similarity Screening & Desk Audit

Every manuscript submitted to Frontier Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation undergoes rigorous similarity screening and desk pre-screening before being considered for peer review.

🔍
Comprehensive Evaluation: Submissions are thoroughly evaluated against published scientific literature, preprints, dissertations, and academic databases to ensure originality.

02. Strict Similarity Thresholds

Manuscripts are evaluated against precise quantitative criteria:

Overall Similarity < 15%

The gross text similarity index across the entire paper (excluding references, titles, and standard affiliations) must remain below 15%.

Single Source < 3%

No single external source or previously published paper may account for more than 3% overlap, ensuring substantive originality.

⚠️
Action on Violation: Submissions with similarity between 15% and 25% due to common laboratory methods are returned to the author for one-time revision. Submissions exceeding 25% or showing verbatim copying without quotation marks are desk-rejected immediately without appeal.

03. Self-Plagiarism & Text Recycling

Authors may not republish paragraphs or whole sections from their own earlier published journal articles, conference proceedings, or book chapters without transparent scholarly citation.

  • Methodology Sections: While standard experimental protocols inevitably share terminology, authors must cite the original methodology source and summarize adaptations rather than copying verbatim text blocks.
  • Theses & Dissertations: Manuscripts adapted from an author's university master's or doctoral thesis are welcome, provided the thesis is acknowledged and the text has been substantially restructured for peer review.

04. Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI & LLMs)

FJMRI acknowledges the potential utility of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) to assist researchers with language editing, coding, or preliminary outlining. However, ethical boundaries must be maintained:

🤖
AI Cannot Be An Author: Authorship conveys moral, legal, and intellectual responsibility. Because generative AI software cannot take responsibility for scientific claims, sign copyright documents, or manage conflicts of interest, AI tools cannot be credited as authors or co-authors under any circumstances.

05. Mandatory AI Disclosure Declaration

If generative AI or machine-learning tools were employed at any stage during research design, coding, statistical analysis, data visualization, or manuscript drafting, authors must include a transparent disclosure in the Methods or Declarations section:

Sample AI Disclosure Statement:
"During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [Name of Tool, Version/Model, Developer] to [specify exact purpose, e.g. improve English grammar and sentence flow / assist with Python scripting]. After utilizing this service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content thoroughly and take full responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the publication."

06. Strict AI Ban for Peer Reviewers & Editors

Peer reviewers and handling editors hold unpublished manuscripts under strict legal confidentiality.

🚫
Reviewer Confidentiality Mandate: Reviewers and editors are strictly forbidden from inputting, pasting, or uploading unpublished manuscript text, abstracts, data sets, or figures into public or commercial generative AI models. Doing so breaches confidentiality agreements, exposes unpublished intellectual property, and constitutes severe editorial misconduct.
