Contemporary film economics frequently assumes that financial scale—comprising high production budgets, extensive pre-release marketing, and mainstream star power—is a strict prerequisite for commercial viability. This exploratory case study examines the atypical trajectory of the regional Gujarati film Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate (released in October 2025), which transitioned from a modest reported opening to substantial box-office collections. Investigating documentation across dated trade reporting and industry analysis, this paper explores the structural and psychological mechanisms that may underlie its growth. By integrating foundational theories of word-of-mouth (WOM) and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) diffusion, narrative transportation, customer satisfaction, social proof, and entrepreneurial marketing, the study proposes an analytical framework for evaluating how culturally anchored narratives can align with audience referral networks. Rather than asserting definitive causation from secondary observations, this paper introduces a transparent, reproducible evidence-validation register to distinguish verified trade documentation from theoretical hypotheses. It explicitly addresses reporting discrepancies regarding production and distribution expenditures, conducts a systematic comparative analysis alongside Kantara and The Kashmir Files, and evaluates five critical boundary conditions—including reverse causality, distribution supply effects, and selection bias—while formulating five testable research propositions for future empirical verification.
